Wine-making has been a passion at the Rubino house since its inception. While the builders of the house undoubtedly continued their Sicilian heritage of making wine during the ‘dry’ times of the Prohibition, the home wine-making tradition was carried on. The most recent owner made home-made wine on the premises from premium, locally sourced varietals, presumably just like the prior owners before him. The trompe l’oeil murals depicting arcadian winery views were added in 2007 by the artists who also was commissioned by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, giving the perfect backdrop to both the wine cellar and the wine making.
